Visa, Mastercard and Ant International are teaming up to develop an AI-agent trust framework, tackling one of the biggest challenges facing the emerging agentic-commerce ecosystem: how merchants, payment providers and consumers can safely trust autonomous agents to transact. The collaboration brings together three major players across global payments and digital commerce. A standardized trust layer could help establish how AI agents identify themselves, authenticate transactions and operate on behalf of users. That is particularly important as agents move from simply recommending purchases toward actually executing them. The initiative also comes as payment networks increasingly build infrastructure specifically for agentic commerce. If successful, the framework could become an important piece of the infrastructure underpinning AI-driven payments.
